North Glasgow Healthy Living Community Deliver Healthy Lifeskills Programme
10 November 2004

Feel Fab for Free: Wednesday 24th November 11am till 2pm in Barmulloch Community Education

North Glasgow Healthy Living Community works in partnership with local organisations and service providers to identify and address local health issues, as well as improving access to health services and information for the people of North Glasgow.

One of our work areas is physical activity and with this in mind we have contracted with North Glasgow College to deliver a Healthy Lifeskills Programme across North Glasgow. One of the components of this programme is for the college to deliver a fitness and awareness-raising day in Barmulloch.

The students at North Glasgow College have been heavily involved in the planning and promotion of this event as part of their coursework and have come up with catchy title for the day "Feel fab for free". There's going to be lots of different activities on the day for local communities to take part in; salsa dancing; line dancing; keep fit taster sessions; fitness testing; healthy eating cookery demos, massage, etc.

There also will be information available on various health topics such as sexual health, alcohol, healthy eating etc, and a local pharmacist to give advice. A mobile crèche has also been organised, making it easier for people to take part.

Red Road Women's Centre

Also, on Saturday 20th November from 11:00-1pm there's an event taking place at the Red Road Flats. The event has been part funded by North Glasgow HLC, along with Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Arts Council. The women's art group at the Red Road Women's Centre are inviting women to take part in a 'Labyrinth of Life'.

It will involve 234 women and will symbolise women's journey through life. The whole event is going to be documented and every woman who has taken part will receive a photo. The documentation is going to be part of the exhibition 'Elbowroom' to be held at the Gallery of Modern Art in December.

There's no charge for the event, there will be light refreshments and information stalls with info on other projects across North Glasgow available. There will also be crèche facilities available which you need to call and book in advance.
