Parenting Skills – Youth Stress Centre North Glasgow

Parenting Skills is a 20 week Emotional Literacy programme run by the Youth Stress Centre that helps parents understand their own feelings and their children’s feelings better,  and reveal the dynamics at play within thefamily. The programme starts on Wednesday 19th April until Wednesday 21st June, with the final 10 sessions taking place after the school Summer Holidays. The sessions will take place in the Millburn Centre, 221 Millburn Street, Royston, and will run from 10 - 12noon. Lunch will be provided.

On this course programme facilitators will help you design and implement a programme appropriate to your family’s needs and your children’s personalities. You will be able to develop a clear understanding of your family dynamics and receive numerous practical tips in how to react when personal tensions are running high. Staff will be on hand to help you cope with developing situations and to provide advice and emotional support throughout.

The Parenting Skills programme is linked to the 4 key areas of emotional literacy:

  • Self awareness; mental physical and emotional
  • Awareness of others; understanding body language and visualising how others see themselves and their situation
  • Self-management; motivation, planning, self appraisal and relaxation skills
  • Relationship management; such as empathy, communication, negotiation, sharing and having fun

Exploring these areas will help parents recognise their existing abilities, skills and qualities, to identify habits and attitudes both healthy and unhealthy, and most importantly, to do something about it.
