Building on the valuable and ongoing work that’s been achieved in the city providing services to women involved in prostitution, NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde have funded a two year pilot project to provide services to men who are similarly sexually exploited through prostitution, called the Open Road Project.
Hosted by West CHCP and working throughout the Greater Glasgow & Clyde area, the project aims to identify the hidden population of potentially vulnerable men currently involved in prostitution and will work alongside existing statutory and voluntary sector agencies to ensure that this population receive appropriate services.
The project will work directly with men involved in prostitution to assess their needs and will put in place interventions to meet this expressed need and also to support men to consider the benefits of exiting prostitution.
Julian Heng, Project Manager said, “Prostitution goes hand in hand with exploitation and harm, with many men involved also experiencing homelessness, addiction and mental ill-health. We hope to support the men and young people involved to the benefit of their health and life circumstances.”
