"A team that drinks together wins together is an ethos that has been chanted throughout the annals of sporting history. This sentiment could hardly be better personified than in the growth of Blochairn Star, the half pint of shandy appreciation society of Saturday morning football.
However to get a better understanding of the progression of the current Division 1 Champions we must go back to the summer of 2001 to the heady afternoons of sunshine and alcohol in the lounge of The Lee Bar (Townhead).
The Lee AFC was formed and constituted in July 2001; with the mission statement simple yet concrete "to participate and engage in sporting activities (primarily football) on a Saturday morning thus diverting team members from nocturnal Friday activities."
The Lee finished 3rd in the Strathclyde Saturday morning league in their inaugural season and due to unforeseen circumstances (custom no longer required!) a new sponsor was needed. The Budgie Star was born.
At the beginning of the following season the ragamuffins who had so gallantly competed the previous year joined forces with former team members of the Parade (Bar) and the very successful Huddle (Bar) to form Blochairn Star, named after our very generous sponsor Blochairn Bar. There is a theme developing here.
Our home park, The Jimmy Mc Grory Park in Garngad, was formally opened with a challenge match between Blochairn Star and Celtic F.C. It was a close game and the score can be found in another section of another web page on another computer, all right it was 12 - 0.
Our Honours above tell the story of the story so far.................the story continues." (Blochairn Star AFC)
