Season kick off We were invited to participate in 9 pre -season freindlies this year and it has given us an opportunity to look at a few players and systems. We lost to County Thistle, drew with Glasgow North and Provanmill Thistle and won the other 6 games claiming the Danny Hurley trophy in the process. Our final game last night against Ashfield Amatuers saw us 2-0 down at half time and come back to win 4-2 - showing the type of spirit that will be necessary to even compete in the top flight this year. We have signed 17 outfeild players and will consider one more before the squad is finalised - new players are Joe Mc Luskey, Brian Henderson, Robert Frew, Craig Brown, John Brogham and Kevin Mc Grath. Robert clarkston has joined us as Player/Coach and Paul Harvey as Coach. The only other change of note is that Kevin Connell has joined the Management Team following Stevie Mullen departure We kick of tomorrow V Kelvinbank Star at Glenconner (7.00pm.) against the team who eliminated us from last season's Strathclyde Cup.
Season 2010/11 Kick Off With one more pre -season freindly to play V Ashfield, Blochairn Star and Kelvinbank Star will open the SSML season with a League Cup Section match at Glenconner on Wednesday 18th of August. Blochairn welcome new signings Robert Frew, Craig Brown, John Brogham and Robert Clarkston from SCYP and Joe Mc Luskey from St. Roch's Juniors. As pre season results have shown V St. Mary's, Glasgow North and county Thistle this will be an exceptionally tough season and we will need to be at our very best to be challenging at the top end of the table. Blochairn V Kelvinbank is on Wednesday 18th of August at Glenconner at 7.00p.m. Harry Kelly Tournament Congratulations to County thistle who beat us 4-3 in the Harry Kelly Cup Final on Sunday at Petershill after both teams scraped through on the Saturday v Glasgow North and St. Mary's virtue of penalties and a toss of a coin - (yes Blochairn won on penalties - highlight of the weekend) A good tournament that was well organised so well done to Paul Kelly and the Glasgow North boys. St Roch's tournament Blochairn exited the St. Roch's Community tournament after a really good 4-4 draw with Provanmill Thistle. Provvy won the penalty shoot out to take on the holders in Sundays final. This was a good excercise and the match was evenly competed in all areas of the park - a few early season lessons learned for Blochairn in what was a well organised tournamet. It would have been nice to test ourselves against the Juniors on the Sunday, maybe next time. Well done to Provanmill Thistle and we wish them well for the forthcoming season.
Danny Hurley Tournament Blochairn won the first Danny Hurley Memorial event at a packed Toryglen arena last weekend with a 3-2 victory against hosts St. Mary's in a thrilling final. Both team's had progressed against Windlaw and Kerrydale Celtic on the Friday night and put on a really good game that was won by a Gerry Hughes last minute header. This was a great event and we were humbled to accept the trophy from Danny's parents. St. Mary's managed to raise over £1300 for Abrerlour Childrens trust and deserve great praise fro the way the event was organised. On a football note it was our first trophy for over a year and was a hard fought victory so well done to all the lads.
Season 2010/11 Blochairn began our pre-season training early this year with a comfortable 5-1 victory over West End Villa at Seedhill. Goals from Heepsy (2), Frewsy, Macca and Mc Cartney were enough to claim victory in a very satisfying performance. Robert Frew (formerly SCYP) and Joe Mc Luskey (formerly St. Roch's) made their debut for the club and fitted in well. Training schedule continues at Glenconner on Mondays and Wednesdays with robert Clarkston and Paul Harvey
Seasons review 2009/10 On paper it will look like one of our worst season's and it is certainly the first season that we have finished without a trophy for 4 years but to be honest it has been a fantastic campaign were we played 38 games in all competitions and only lost 2 games in 90 minutes, unfortunatley it was these 2 games which cost us our main objective and claiming back the title. In this campaign (probably the toughest SSML season ever) we played 18, Lost 3 Drew 4 and Won 11. The 3 we lost were to Greenhill and Shawbride both by 5 goals to 2 and a campaign changing 3-2 defeat at home when we were 2-1 up with 15 minutes to go, got a man sent off and then the winner was scored in the 91st minute in what proved to be a crucial defeat. Greenhills Dynamo eventually went on to win the title (6 points ahead of us) and victory in the December game may have made all the difference in our challenge - although to be fair, Greenhills were an excellent side this season and when we travelled there on the 15th of May knowing a 2 goal victory would have put us in the driving seast for the title, it was always going to be a massive task - so in the league until the 3rd last game but beaten by worthy champs. Our cup campaigns were even more cruel as we played 20 games and were unbeaten in 90 minutes in the 4 competitions - hard to belief but ultimately true. In the Scottish Cup we beat Redbrae in the second round before meeting Dalkeith in our first competitve game outside Glasgow - a very hard fought game saw us get a deserved 3-3 draw in edinburgh. in the replay we were 2-0 up with 20 minutes to go and cruising before John Conner was sent off, Dalkeith pulled 2 goals back and got the winner in the last minute of extra time- it was two great games but the sending off killed us. The west was even more cruel as we progressed to th last 16 beating teams like Weirs Recreation, Glencatle Sparta, Paisley Reid Kerr and Lomond Rock and were quitley confident when we were drawn against Mossblown of Ayrshire. Although the football God's conspired against us that April night as we had to travel to Ayr for a 6.00 o'clock kick off, meaning that half of the first team could not make the fixture - We went 1-0 down with 20 minutes to go in front of a hostile home crowd who were silenced 5 minutes later by a John Thomson wonder goal. With the clock on 91 minutes and Blochairn on the ascendancy and preparing for extra time - the referee awarded Mossblown a penalty which left even the home team and support mystified - the penalty was converted with almost the last kick and a tantalising quarter final against eventual winners Harestanes was gone, penalties would have an impact on our other two cup cometitions with the harshest outcome for Blochairn. We went through our League Cup Section unbeaten then had good wins against St. Mary's DTI and AS Airdrie to reach the final v Greenhills Dynamo. A final that was played in front of about 500 people at an outstanding venue in Lesser Hampden - we led 1-0 thanks to a David Murray goal at half time and with 25 minutes left Greenhills equalised from the spot. There was chances for both teams before the final whistle before penalty kicks - this was a fabulous game and we actually scored our first 8 penalties, but Greenhills showed there nerve by equaling that feat before bagging the winner after we missed the 9th. In the Strathclyde Cup 3 days later we drew 1-1 each in the quarter final with Kelvinbank Star in a night to remember for their big Keeper before losing 6-5 on penalties - we actually had a kick to win the game and missed -so close - which ultimatley summed up our season, so close but nothing to show. A few new players came into the club and performed really well and a few well kent faces called it a day, there was a period in early December were we lost about 5 players in the space of two weeks and I beleive that it was the reduction in the size of our squad which ultimately cost us (that is my view - most other people in the know will blame the Manager :). Players want to play every minute of every game but will need to realise that to compete in 4 competitions and in what will be an extended SSML Premier League of 14 teams, the importance of a squad is of ultimate importance. Personally I would like to thank Allan Campbell for his added role as kit man to Paul Roan for taking the extra responsibility of Treasurer and to Paul Cunningham and Stevie Mullan for their support as Assistant's throughout the season. Hopefully we can keep the mainstay of our squad and work has started on bringing in improvements for next season. We just have our Player of the Year Presentations this Saturday afternoon and all current players should attend and everyone with any association with the club is welcome - to celebrate a season which was not as bad as it looks on paper. ==========================================
Congratulations to 2009/10 Winners Player of the Year Kevin Connell, Player's Player of Year Mark Mathieson Top Goalscorer John Heeps (38 goals) ===========================================

Week beginning 21st of December 2009 After another week of inactivity Blochairn go into the Christmas break 6th in the SSML (our lowest ever position at Christmas - baah humbug) although we have a number of games in hand over the leaders we will need to hit the ground running in 2010. =Week beginning 25th of January 2010. Tuesday 6:30 Training at Garthamlock Thursday 7.00 Aerobics at Wallacewell Saturday - Away to St. Mary's SSML 10.00 am We can announce that we have secured sponsorship form local construction firm Wates and track suits for the 2009 /10 squad have been ordered. ==========================================
We have organised a freindly for Monday 28th of December and hopefully for Wednesday 30th. Sad to say that blochairn have lost another 2 players who have been with the club since the beginning. Second top scorer in our history Adam Black has left the club due to work commitments and will be feturing for Balornock in the second half of the season. Adam must have scored over 150 goals for Blochairn and will be a big loss. Also last years joint Players Player of the Year Sean Mc Grottty has decided to have a go at the juniors and has signed for St. Roch's - hopefully his battling in midfeild will help Davie Greigs team to push for a promotion place and we wish him well. On a positive note we can confirm that we will have a new face joining the management team as ex St. Roch's and Pollok Juniors player Stevie Mullen joins to help out, this could turn out to be our biggest signing of the season. We at the club would like to wish the committee and everyone associated with the SSML a great Christmas and a fantastic new year. We wish the clubs who are still involved in the national competitions all the best. We have now lost two of our first five league games and face an uphill battle to add our fouth Premier title, although everyone at the club will be well up for the challenge - bring on 2010..
--------------------------------------------------------------Week beginning 30th of November 2009 Wednesday 2nd - training at Garthamloch at 8.30 till 9.30 Saturday 5th A good 3 points on Saturday with a 3-2 win over AS Airdrie will mean nothing if we do not show they same desire against last seasons runners up and current league leaders Greenhills Dynamo on Saturday at the Jimmy Mc Grory.
----------------------------------------------------------------- week beginning 23rd of November Work is now complete on the new Community Portal and if you are reading this will know that our website is now back up and running. In the past couple of weeks we have progressed to the quarter finals of the league cup and the forth round of the west of Scotland Cup but unfortunately were elimintated from the scottish cup after a replay in the 3rd round. (match reports available) This week we train at Garthamloch on Wednesday and play AS Airdrie at the Jimmy Mc Grory in the SSML on saturday. Local building company (Wates) have offered us sponsorship for training equipment, get more news about this when it happens. We thank them all for their effort - particularly Brian Mc Geachy and Steven Smith who have been with the club since we formed in 2003. We have signed Joe Haldane (Kelvin), John Conner and John Heeps (St. Roch's), and Paul Mc Cartney and Graeme Sneddon (Hogganfield Thistle) - we also welcome back James Mc Grotty, Stuart Alexander and Christian Laboya in what looks like a very strong squad as we challenge Tynecastle for their SSML title. Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the freindly which was organised against Glasgow Harp. We have played the Harp on a number of occassions and have a really good working relationship with them - so it is unfortunate that we could not fulfill the fixture. Training is on Tuesday night at Glenconner - training is also available (optional) on Wednesday at 7.00 - after the Celtic game. We play Partick West at Petershill this Saturday - 2.00 p.m. kick off.

We would like to offer our deepest sympathies to Michelle and the rest of Paul's family. Paul was 37 and a genuinely nice guy who was a big help to us at Blocahirn Star, his enthusiasm for football was immense and was a real shining example to the younger players at Blochairn and Glasgow North. He was best known as a professional footballer but his work in north Glasgow in the past couple of years with Sidekicks has allowed hundreds of local young people participate in sport. He helped train Blochairn Star and even played for us for 45 minutes in the first Harry Kelly Tounament - 45 minutes/2 goals - different class. His death is a shock to everyone who knew him and we at Blochairn Star hope that his family find some comfort from the knowledge that his work has had such a positive and significant impact to young people in north Glasgow. Rest In Peace Mowgli x
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saturday saw a very good 4-4 draw against our SSML rivals with the Saints winning on penalties. Blochairn had coverted two spot kicks during the 90 minutes from Allan Campbell and James Mc Grotty but missed two during the shoot out. Marc Mc Donnell and David Murray got the other goals. A draw was about the right result and well done to St Mary's who went onto beat Barrowfield in the final to win the Harry Kelly Trophy. We beat Glasgow North 4-1 on Sunday with Paul Roan and David Murray getting two a peice. Sunday was our 3rd game in 5 days after Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Perthshire Juniors where Gary Mc Guire and Marc Mc Donnell were scorers. So 10 goals in 3 games and some decent debut performances from wee Chris in goals and John Conner against St. Mary's - he will prove to be a valuable addition to the Blochairn squad. Training this week is on Tuesday and Thursday at Glenconner at 6.15 and we play this Saturday v Rosehill at 10.00 am.

08 July 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In what was a good night £350 was raised for the team and thanks to everyone who contributed by buying/selling horses and for betting on the night Thanks again
08 July 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In what was a great game played out in front of a couple of hundred spectatotors Grarngad Bar took the lead through Big Fergie with an unstoppable shot from about 20 yards after terrific build up play. Blochairn got back into the game with an equaliser from Marc Mc Donnell but young Brian Henderson restored the lead fro Garngad Bar just before half time with an excellent header. Garngad raced into an unsurmountable lead scoring two early second half goals to lead 4-1 when Sen Mc Grotty scored a beauty to make it 4-2. Although Garngad were not finished and went on to make it 5-2. This was an excellent match but Garngad Bar were deserved winners although Blochairn played some good stuff at times. In the morning game Blochairn Star Over 30's managed a 1-1 draw against Garngad Bar's older team in what was also an excellent game of football - Garngad had led for most of the game but Blochairn equialised with 2 minuites to go from the penalty spot. Three thousand pounds was raised on the day which will be split between 4 local providers for children and young people and with St. Roch's Primary School football team. This was an excellent day and well done to everyone concerned and a big thanks to everyone who contributed, to all the players, to Albert and Neil and to Keith, Wallace and the other Assistant Referee who gave their time and especially to Margaret Anne Cummings and the boys who made the presentation.
08 July 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the day we will play two games an over 30's match at 11.00 and an under 30's match at 1:30. the day continues with a barbeque at the Budgie wher we will have our Player of The Year Presentations that evening during our race night. The seaon kicks off in the second week in August with the League Cup section games. We will play 5 or 6 freindlies before this which will be announced soon
16 June 2009 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First mention must go to Tynecastle for winning the big one in their 30th year. Bernie and Billies team went through the entire campaign losing only once in 20 games. In what was probably one of the most competitive leagues in memory the winner of this title needed to be a very good team and Tynecastle proved to be just that. We played them 3 times and lost all three, if we would have turned them over in both league games we would have claimed our 3rd consecutive championship by a point which proves who close this title was, however Tynecastle completey deserved their vicory and were, by far the leagues top team. If they can build on their squad for next season they will take some beating next season in what should be the most competitive SSML yet as SCYP, Riverside and one other join the top division. Congratulations to SCYP also for clinching the Second Division and League cup - well done lads and we look forward to playing you next season. In our only encounter SCYP beat us (quite convincingly - 3-1) in the League Cup and will provise a big challenge to Tynecastle next season. Further congratulations to ICC who won a very competitve 3rd Division - any one of 4 teams looked to be in the running but ICC were never far from the top. I know from training alonside Glasgow North on a weekly basis the quality they have in their ranks and that it would have taken a good team to beat them - so well done to ICC We congratulate Greenhills Dynamo who won the Strathclyde Cup, were runners up in the league as well as the League Cup - as late as April they were still challenging for a treble - which would have been an outstanding acheivement and their Strathclyde Cup win give their season a deserved silver lining. Greenhills will be among the contenders for Tynecastles thrown next season. We have got a lot to be proud of this season, at times we played some exceptional football and had some fantastic results, however it was ultimately a dissapointing season for everrybody at Blochairn. We finished 3rd in the SSML in a season that looked so promising - having been unbeaten and top of the league until January but (self inflicted) suspensions came back to haunt us as we lost 3 games in January to almost extinguish our early promise. The biggest lesson that we can take from the season is that you get what you deserve in terms of discipline with far too many silly bookings leadign top far too many silly suspentions - although we were at full strength the 3 times we played the eventual champs, so this is no excuse. We progressed to the 3rd round of the Scottish and West of Scotland cups and won the Tommy Marshall Trophy in a well contested final against Cumbernauld Town at Ashfield. We welcome back Zander and Cunny for pre-season training and have already secured the services of Paul Mc Cartney (ex Hogganfield) for next season. After consultation by the players committee the Manager will remain for next season and will will do everything that we can to bring the title back to the Garngad. PlaYER OF THE yEAR PRESENTATION IS ON THE 6TH OF jUNE AND PRE SEASON TRAINING STARTS BACK ON JULY THE 16TH. Well done again to all the winners, particularly Tynecastle and hope to see you all again next season.
