Blochairn were eliminated from the Strathclyde cup by a Riverside team that more than deserved to progress. riverside had led 2-0 early on before the SSML champions rallyed to go in at the breaik level. Although it was the Clydebank men who went on to claim victory with another two second half goals.
The dissapointing thing from a Blochairn point of view was that 3 of the goals came from long throw ins and one from a punt which should have been easily dealt with although it was just one of those days for Blochairn who put in our worst performance of the season. This is not meant to be a slur on Riverside who won every battle in every area of the park and we wish them well for the rest of the tournament.
Gerry Hughes continued his good scoring form to get the equaliser but, him apart, Blochairn players were as poor as this writer has observed.
Tynecastle at home next Saturday in the league and there will be a shake up of the starting 11in a fixtre that could go a long way to determining the outcome of the championship.
A good win at the weekend saw AS Aidrie narrow the gap to the two teams at the top of the table and the Lanarkshire men will be watching for the result of this tie with interest. A Blochairn win puts us in the driving seat - although we will need to be 100 times better than Saturdays poor show.
