Blochairn won for the first time in 4 years at Castlemilk to keep our hopes alive of retaining the Champioship. Two first half Maec Mc Donnell strikes and a Gery Hughes penalty should have been enough to secure victory although Windlaw fought back as we have been used to in recent matches against us and wil feel that their second half performace could have merited a draw. After defeat to AS Airdrie back in December we knew that we need to win all our remaining fixtures to win the league, we won 9 out of those 10 fixtures, losing only to a gritty Forest team fighting for survival after Airdrieonians left the league. As it turns out that event may prove important to Blochairn as if Airdrieonians had stayed in the league we would already be Champions.
We must now wait for up to 6 games or until AS Airdrie drop something, and it was really deflating having had such an important victory on Saturday without having any real cause to celebrate. AS Airdries league fixtures are to be scheduled for midweek and will be playing 3 games a week, this is not ideal for Neilly's players and the league may need to think about introducing measures to avoid a repeat of the fixture congestion for future seasons.
Our player of the year dance is 24th May at St Roch's Hall and the Mark Cummings game is scheduled for the 14th of June - proceeds to the Ross family.
But in the meantime can I thank all the players and assistants for all your hard work this season, weather it is enough to win the league we will wait to see. If the league title is not secured the Mark Cummings game will be my last in charge. So thanks again to everyone who has helped for the last two seasons.
