Fairbridge and Strathclyde Police

Fairbridge and Strathclyde Police

Working Together
  • Fairbridge and Strathclyde Police recognise that antisocial behaviour is a growing problem in our communities and that various options ranging from more supportive educational activity through to direct punitive measures are required to tackle this issue effectively.
  • By working in partnership and by combining the respective skills and experiences of each organisation, we can provide a more joined up approach to address this issue.

Who does the project target?

  • The proposed project will target 10 young people between the ages of 13-15 from the North of Glasgow who have been identified by police as at risk of moving up the tariff of offending behaviour to ensure that our intervention can have the greatest impact and effectively curtail their behaviour.

What does the project involve?

  • The project will consist of two development stages:
  • an initial 10 day course delivered over 4 weeks and a longer term follow on flexible programme if required.
  • The courses will be delivered by Fairbridge staff who have extensive experiencing of engaging effectively with the most challenging young people.
  • Strathclyde Police and partners will be involved in sections of course delivery which will improve relationships and the perceptions of the police force amongst participants.
  • This will also provide a greater chance of sustainable success in tackling antisocial behaviour out with the time they are involved with Fairbridge which is where diversionary activities fall short.

How will the Project administer the programme?

  • The project will use informal learning to challenge inappropriate behaviour in a fun and supportive manner which makes it easier to engage the young people long term which is where any real sustainable change will occur.
  • Participants will be supported to explore attitudes they hold and behaviours they exhibit and reflect on the impact that this has not only on their own opportunities and futures but on those around them.
