C Card www.sandyford.org 0141 211 8600 C Card is a service in Glasgow offering free access to a range of condoms with minimum embarrassment. Condoms are important as they can help prevent you catching or passing on HIV, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and also prevent unintended pregnancies. To get your free condoms you must register at one of the C Card registration sites. Once you have registered you can then pick up free condoms from distribution sites. Central Heating Programme 0800 316 1653 If you're sixty or over with no central heating and own or privately rent your own home, this programme from the Scottish Executive offers:
- free central heating providing heat in up to 6 rooms in your home
- free insulation: cavity-wall insulation, loft, tank and pipe insulation, and draught proofing
- free advice on energy efficiency and how to use your central heating
- free carbon monoxide detector, smoke detector, and cold alarm which tells you when your home is too cold for your health
- free check to make sure that you are receiving all the state benefits you are entitled to

However, if you are 80 or over, and your home is partially heated or your heating is not efficient you may be entitled to a new or upgraded heating system. Glasgow City Council's Handyperson Service 0800 587 2239 The Handyperson Service provides practical support for people aged 65 and over who require assistance with tasks in their own home, for example, changing fuses, changing plugs, changing washers, hanging curtains, internal window cleaning, pension and prescription collection, and spring cleaning. There is no requirement for an assessment of need by Social Work Services, and service-users do not necessarily need to be receiving other Home Care Services. Charges are only made for the cost of any materials that may be required to undertake the work. No charge will be made for the handyperson's time or travel expenses. The service is available by calling the Handyperson Service on 0800 587 2239 between the hours of 8.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Live Active Exercise Referral Scheme The Live Active Exercise Referral Scheme is a new city-wide scheme aimed at helping those who are not currently regularly physically active to become more active. Even if you are doing some physical activity but you’d like to do more and feel additional advice and support would help you, the Exercise Referral Scheme can help.
If interested in the exercise referral scheme you should contact your GP, Practice Nurse or Physiotherapist. If they think the referral scheme is appropriate for you they will complete a referral form allowing you to attend an exercise consultation in your local area (Springburn Leisure Centre for North Glasgow).
You will then be enrolled onto the scheme for 12 months, receiving advice, support and encouragement from an exercise counsellor to help you become and stay regularly physically active. You will also benefit from accessing local authority facilities at a discounted price for up to 12 months.
Referrals must be made by your Doctor, Practice Nurse or Physiotherapist prior to booking an appointment.

North Glasgow Advice Centre 0141 770 7869 North Glasgow Advice Centre is a new initiative funded by Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Housing Association. It provides independent advice and representation from the Legal Services Agency and Glasgow Central CAB. The centre provides a free and confidential service, dealing with issues such as benefits advice, debt/money advice, housing, asylum and immigration. North Glasgow Advice Centre is open 9am - 1pm and 2pm -5pm Monday to Friday for telephone enquiries and also runs drop-in surgeries on Mondays 2-4pm, Wednesdays 10am - 4pm, and Fridays 10am - 12 noon. Text 4U 07781 488 591 Text 4U is a confidential sexual health information service for young people. The service enables users to send a text massage if they have a query about where to get help and advice on subjects such as relationships, sexuality, pregnancy, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and rape. It costs the price of a normal text message to access the service and this automated service is completely confidential.
All you have to do is text a key word on a subject that interests you to 07781 488 591 and information on services and contact numbers will be sent back automatically. The service works in two ways:
To obtain information about local and city centre services, you simply need to text a key word and a place name to the service, e.g. pregnancy govan (it's important that you leave a space between the words!). Information about where to go for advice and help will be sent back to you.
To obtain definitions of a word simply text in the word and the definition will be sent back to you, e.g. puberty, STI, etc.
The Pension Service www.thepensionservice.gov.uk 0845 606 0265 The pension service is part of the Department for Work and Pensions and has been set up to improve the service you receive whether you are already a pensioner or are planning for your retirement, no matter how far off it might be. The phone lines are open 8am to 8pm, Monday to Friday.

If you are male, aged 18 or over, and have suffered childhood sexual abuse, call for an appointment for an initial session to check out if counselling can be an aid to your recovery. Warm Deal Programme - Eaga 0800 072 0150 Eaga work on behalf of the Scottish Executive and provide insulation grants of up to £500 under the Warm Deal. The Warm Deal offers grants for a range of energy-saving measures, you can get £500 towards:
- Cavity Wall Insulation
- Loft, Tank and pipe insulation
- Draught proofing
- 4 energy-efficient light bulbs, and
- Energy advice
You will qualify for a grant of up to £500 if you or your husband or wife own or rent your home and receive one of the following:
- Attendance Allowance
- Child Tax Credit with an income of less than £14,200
- Council Tax Benefit
- Disability Living Allowance
- Disabled Person's Tax Credit
- Housing Benefit
- Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
- Income Support
- Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit (which must include Constant Attendance Allowance)
- Pension Credit
- War Disablement Pension (which must include the mobility supplement or Constant Attendance Allowance)
- Working Tax Credit with an income of less than £14,200

Young Scot www.youngscot.org Young Scot offers incentives, information and opportunities to people aged 12 to 26 to help them make informed choices, play a part in their community, and make the most of their free time and learning. The website is designed specifically with young people in mind, to cater for all tastes and interests. You can access up-to-the-minute youth related news and information, as well as reviews, features, competitions, special offers and discounts. You can also apply for a Young Scot Card which entitles you to lots of discounts and can be used in over 1,800 outlets in Scotland, ranging from cinemas and theatres, to shopping, sports and travel. Membership for one year is £7, all you have to do is fill in an application form which is downloadable from the Young Scot website.
