Truth About Youth Launch Event

Young Scot and The Co-operative Foundation are launching the new Truth About Youth Glasgow project on Saturday 23 October 2010.


Where: St. Mungo's Museum, Glasgow
When: 11am-3.30pm.
Cost: Free

 

The launch event will be a chance for you to meet with other young people who will be involved in the project, discover more about how you can help change the existing negative perceptions of young people in Glasgow, learn more about our blogging site ‘The Patter' and how you can be involved with the media to help communicate positive messages about Glasgow's young people to your communities.

 

The day will specifically look elements such as how to deal with negativity towards young people, how to run consultations, how to run youth led peer engagement sessions and information about how to communicate with others and share your opinions via our blog site, The Patter. Each of these elements are excellent tools to help you challenge negative perceptions of young people in Glasgow and replace them with positive ones.

Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games - Flag handover ceremony, Self Funded Mass Cast Places

 

On Thursday 14th October 2010, within the closing ceremony of the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games at the Jawaharlal Nhru stadium, Glasgow and Scotland will make the first public statement to the commonwealth and the world by presenting a handover ceremony that will set the scene for the four years leading up to the delivery of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

 

The handover will mark the start of an amazing journey for athletes, citizens and communities of Scotland and the Commonwealth towards the biggest sporting event Scotland has hosted.

 

The performance will involve a mass choreographed dance routine with a cast of approximately 400 amateur volunteers from all across Scotland and from all walks of life. The performance will take place on the field of the spectacular Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which has been redeveloped for the games and will host a capacity crowd of 65000 for the closing ceremony. The performance will be beamed live across the Commonwealth to an estimated 1 billion people with many millions more watching the performance as it is re-shown on television and the internet in the days, weeks and months that follow.

Workshops that will be delivered are parentcraft, parenting skills, self esteem and confidence building, healthy eating, home safety, personal safety, budgeting and finance, tips on running a home, sexual health and drug and alcohol awareness.

There will be lots of pampering sessions such as nail and hair sessions, massage therapies and outings and much more.
