Keppochhill is alive...with the sound of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra! 12th May 2005
Members of the Royal Scottish Orchestra recently played to a captive audience at Keppoch Campus, near Possil. The event, which was organised by North Glasgow Arts Regeneration Network (NGARN), and supported by Abbey, the Scottish Arts Council and the North Glasgow Social Inclusion Partnership, was well attended. The audience included Ewan Small, Education Development Manager at the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Patricia Ferguson, Minister for Tourism Culture and Sport, as well as a host of other well know faces and members of our local community.
The evening started with a brief introduction from Ewan Small, and a few words from Patricia Ferguson, who congratulated NGARN in their organisation of the event, and thanked Keppoch Campus for offering their excellent facilities which allowed the evening to take place.
After an enthralling first session, where the musicians entertained the audience with a variety of well known classical pieces mixed with very interesting and informative talks about their instruments, the group took a few volunteers backstage to give them a crash course in "playing in an orchestra". After the break the volunteers re-emerged carrying their instruments - a football rattle, a "quail", a horn, a thing that makes a duck noise when you blow it, and several others that we don't quite know the name of! The new orchestra 'members' did well, thanks to their expert conductor from the RSNO!
