What is the Architect Liaison Project?
Working with Architects at the design stage, the Architect Liaison Officer (ALO), will advise on areas of design where he/she perceives problems may arise due to building or landscape layout. This may be by ‘designing out' blind spots and areas vulnerable to Theft & Disorder. The ALO will also advise on security measures such as CCTV, Lighting, Alarms and other security hardware.
Existing Architectural Problems
These Officers will also engage in work retrospectively, where problems are identified in established building and landscape layouts. Working with partner agencies, the ALO will seek to address these problems by removing from, or adding to existing structures negative aspects. back to top
Recently completed projects include:
Stobhill Local Forensic Psychiatry Unit
Rowanbank clinic is a recently completed building project within the existing grounds of Stobhill Hospital. An Architect Liaison Officer has been involved in the project from an early stage, studying plans and liasing with Architects and Health Authority Management. The result of this multi agency work, has been the creation of a ‘state of the art' facility.
West of Scotland Adolescent Unit
The proposed West of Scotland Adolescent Unit will also be sited within the grounds of Stobhill Hospital. This excellent facility has also benefited from early involvement of ALO's at the design stage. Advice rendered in respect of this development will, it is hoped, assist in making the facility less attractive for theft and other petty crime.
Wallacewell Primary School
Wallacewell Primary School was built in compliance with Secured By Design (SBD) principles and is certificated to that standard, achieving Secured By Design status.
What is SBD?
SBD is a strict set of guidelines proposed by a Police Body, outlining specific standards of design and build which are proven to deter crime. On completion of any project seeking such accreditation, an Architect Liaison Officer will make visit and examine the build to ensure that all requirements have been fulfilled. Only then will the project receive a Secured By Design Award.
