Disorder
What is happening to alleviate public concerns?
The Community Safety Department has been looking at areas of disorder and in partnership with GCC Land Services, attempting to alleviate public concerns regarding Disorder and Anti Social Behaviour.
Recent work has centred on the Area of Broomfield Rd, with the erection of improved fencing over routes where we continually have problimatic issues. This fencing upgrade, as opposed to its predecessor, is more difficult to vandalise and should remain a barrier to discourage this form of behaviour.
Strathclyde Police will of course continue to tackle problems of disorder and gang fighting operationally and through the ongoing project Operation Reclaim.
Are there any future proposals?
A second fence has been proposed for the open area to the rear of Broomfield Road shops, (known as Chippy Hill). This will effectively block access to and from the open area and deter loitering. This location has been the subject of many complaints regarding disorder and youth drinking.
The Community Safety Dept are currently looking at the options available to address such problems of disorder and youth drinking in the areas of Robroyston. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bogus Callers
There has been a small rise recently in the activity of ‘bogus callers' within ‘EC' Sub Division, targeting particularly the elderly and persons residing alone.
What is being done to stop the "Bogus Callers"?
The Community Safety Dept continue to offer a service to the victims of such crimes by home visits, crime prevention advice/surveys and security hardware.
Whilst the Department strives to offer a high quality of service to the victims of such crime, it is recognised that preventing persons from becoming victims remains a priority.
The Dept have been proactively visiting areas where Bogus Callers are known to have been operating.
Through door to door ‘canvassing' and providing advice and literature, the Departmentt has sought to ‘target harden' these areas by heightening awareness. How are the Police creating awareness of this crime?
Recent events such as Dementia Week and Carers week have been attended by members of the Dept and information areas provided for the elderly attendees as well as Carers. This Multi Agency work has proven successful at raising awareness.
Work continues with The Good Morning Project on the creation of a referral process, to enable Community Safety to visit a greater number of elderly, with whom there is little or no service provision. It is hoped that this process will allow for a more streamline service - from the befriending service of the Good Morning Project, to provision of Police advice/assistance and if required, tradesman through GCC Community Services to install or repair security hardware.
