Passing under the expressway brings you to the old Springburn Cross. The former Cowlairs Co-operative Society building (pictures left) gives an idea of the scale of it's operations. The ground floor shops have been converted to sheltered housing for the elderly. During renovation, four elegant tile panels were discovered in the fishmonger's shop and have been preserved. Across what is now Springburn Way is the trunk of Vulcan Street. On the corner stood the fountain (pictured right) now sited outside Springburn Shopping Centre. |
